The Islet of Mitrou & the Rise and Fall of Mycenaean Palatial Society
- Both the emergence of a ruling elite in the Mycenaean civilization of Greece in the 16th century BCE and the fall of their palaces ca. 1200 BCE are ill-understood. Recent discoveries of a highly organized urban settlement and two well-preserved monumental buildings on Mitrou (which flourished in the 12th century) have provided scholars with much new information, as well as new questions, about the downfall of the palaces on the mainland.
- The lecture will be held at the Parthenon, with a reception following.
- The lecture is free; please call 615-862-8431 to make a reservation. For ADA information please call 615-862-8400.
