Record Officer Program
Appointment of Metro Records Officers is provided for in Metro Code of Law 2.140.050(B). The Records Officer program is administered by the Metro Records Management Division through the Metro Clerk’s Office.
Under this program, the departmental Records Officers develop, implement, and maintain the department’s or office’s records management program. The department head or elected official retains overall accountability for the department’s or office's records management program, as well as signature authority for records retention and destruction when so requested.

Records Officer responsibilities include the following actions:
- Serve as
the department’s
point of contact with Metro Records Management Division on
records-related issues
Participate in Metro’s records management training program
Coordinate with the Records Management Administrative Line of Business (ALOB) efforts for the Results Matter initiative
Develop and maintain according to established standards, processes, and procedures:
File inventories
Record series inventories
Records protection plans
Records schedules
Implement as necessary according to established standards, processes, and procedures:
Records destructions
Records transfers
