The Metro Planning Commission adopted the Imagine East Bank vision plan on October 6, 2022. The plan is the culmination of almost two years of community engagement that led to the creation of four vision concepts — Equitable and Affordable East Bank, Safe and Simple Multimodal Connections, Respect for the River, and Neighborhoods for Nashvillians. These vision concepts set the foundation for realizing Nashville’s next great neighborhoods on the East Bank — 338 acres of underutilized land directly across the river from Downtown Nashville.
The Imagine East Bank Executive Summary provides a summary of the key ideas and recommendations within the vision plan.
Next Steps
The Mayor’s Office is responsible for development negotiations of the Metro-owned land on the East Bank. To learn more about the negotiations and development, please visit Nashville.gov/eastbank.
The Planning Department and Metro Planning Commission will use the adopted Imagine East Bank Vision Plan to guide decisions about future development on the East Bank. It will also be used to shape future design-based zoning tools and to help prioritize future infrastructure investments.
Guidance for East Bank Complete Streets
The redevelopment of Nashville’s East Bank requires a significant transformation of its mobility infrastructure that can only happen in partnership between the public and private sectors. The Guidance for East Bank Complete Streets document facilitates a dialogue between the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the East Bank developer community that bridges the gap between planning and implementation. It helps provide clarity and consistency on important topics such as facility design, right-of-way preservation needs and curb use and access.
