Assuring Public Safety
Assuring public safety is one of the basic expectations people have of government. This speaks to the ability of public safety organizations to communicate and respond to emergencies, prevent and reduce the occurrence of fires, and impact crime at every level and age group.
Becoming the safest big city in America continues to be one of the priorities of the Metro Nashville Government. Some key measures of Metro’s performance for the fiscal year 2007 (July 2006 – June 2007) include:
- - .35% Change in total crime from FY2005 to FY2006
- -1% Change in property crime from FY2006
- -1.99% Change in violent crime from FY2006
- 82% Percentage of Nashvillians who felt safe in their community
- 58% Percentage of male Correctional Development Center inmates completing structured correctional services not returning to jail within 12 months
- 71.8% Percentage of female Correctional Development Center inmates completing structured correctional services not returning to jail within 12 months
- 100% Percentage of time Metro’s 800 MHz Radio System was available to end users
