Important Utility Assistance Information

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) begins on November 3, 2025. Due to limited funding, assistance will only be available for applicants who meet the crisis criteria at this time (for example, those that are currently disconnected). If you don’t meet crisis criteria, please still apply! Your application will be placed on a waiting list, and we’ll contact you as soon as additional funding becomes available. In the meantime, please call 211 for additional resources.

The Metropolitan Action Commission partners with families in poverty using a Whole Family/2Gen Approach. This approach meets the needs of both the child and the adult in their lives building a system of care around the entire family. Our programs and services break the cycle of poverty by addressing the root causes by increasing family economic security, educational success, and health and well-being from one generation to the next.

Our Mission

Child Care Services

Our Head Start and Early Head Start Program provides infant care and pre-school/pre-K education at no cost to income eligible families with children ages 0-5 years old.

Utility Assistance

Our Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) program provides assistance with payments for Electric, Gas, Propane or other energy resource bills to eligible residents in Davidson County.

Adult Education

The Metropolitan Action Commission has in-person classes for adults interested in obtaining their GED/HiSet diploma. Students receive free textbooks, bus passes to assist with transportation and opportunities for employment training and career certifications.
