Richland-West End Addition is a Neighborhood Conservation Zoning Overlay district. Any new construction including additions, demolitions, or relocation of structures is reviewed by the MHZC prior to beginning the project.
Neighborhood Information
Richland-West End Addition became a Neighborhood Conservation Zoning Overlay district in June 2007. The area that would become the Richland-West End Addition neighborhood is located on land that was once part of John Brown Craighead’s 200 acre estate. Craighead’s home, built c. 1811 with bricks fired on the site, still stands at 3710 Westbrook Avenue. In 1905, the Richland Realty Company purchased a large amount of acreage adjacent to Harding Pike (later West End Avenue) two miles outside of the city limits.
Examples of Colonial Revival, American Foursquare, Craftsman, Bungalow, and Tudor Revival homes are present in the neighborhood. The area contains approximately 45 properties.
