Planning Department

Transportation

transportationTransportation's about more than streets and highways - our planners work to create and sustain active, pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use environments, addressing the needs of walkers and cyclists as well as drivers.

The Planning Department also hosts the Metropolitan Planning Organization, or "MPO," which provides long-range transportation planning for cities and counties across Middle Tennessee.

Together, our local planners and the MPO develop plans and strategies aimed at building efficient, sustainable, and accessible transportation systems in the city and the region.

Metro Planning Department

The Planning Commission approved an updated version of "Mobility 2030," Metro's transportation plan, on September 27, 2007. An update to the Major and Collector Street Plan is currently underway, and a schedule of public meetings will be posted here when the meeting dates and locations are set.
