EMERGENCY REPAIRS CLOSE MADISON’S RIO VISTA DRIVE
Crews began work early this morning to repair a section of Rio Vista Drive in Madison that is caving in due to old storm culverts underneath the roadway that are collapsing.
The section being repaired is immediately north of the Rio Vista/North Dupont intersection and adjacent to a Metro Water Services’ Pumping Station. The repairs, which include replacing two 84-inch metal drainage pipes and rebuilding an approximately 100-foot section of roadway, will require Rio Vista to be closed to all but local traffic.
In addition, several other utilities will need to be relocated and bank stabilization work is necessary on the Cumberland River side of the roadway. The extent of the project means Rio Vista Drive will likely be closed for approximately one month. Traffic is being detoured via North Dupont Street, Archwood Drive and Anderson Lane.
Residents of the Rio Vista Apartments and other local traffic will be able to access the roadway from Anderson Lane, but no thru-traffic will be allowed.
Earlier today, Public Works crews placed portable message boards at each end of the detour route notifying drivers of the temporary closing. Metro traffic engineers will monitor signals at the Myatt Drive/Anderson Lane intersection and at the Rio Vista/Old Hickory Boulevard intersection to determine if timings need to be adjusted.
