West End Avenue
Traffic Signal and Street Lighting Reconstruction

The purpose of this project is to upgrade and enhance traffic signals and street lighting in the Broadway / West End Avenue corridor.  These upgrades will allow infrastructure to perform at maximum efficiency while reducing maintenance activity.  Ten (10) signalized intersections will be completely reconstructed along with replacement of 170 street lights.  Specific elements of design will include traffic signals with black mast arms, LED vehicular and pedestrian signals, additional pedestrian indications, and replacement of nonconforming curb ramps.

Traffic Signals
Ten signalized intersections will be reconstructed along the West End Avenue corridor.  Traffic signal replacement is funded through Federal dollars.  Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds are being used at no cost to Metro Nashville.  The following is a list of signalized intersections scheduled for reconstruction

  • Broadway / West End Avenue / 16th Avenue
  • Broadway / 17th Avenue
  • West End Avenue / 17th Avenue
  • West End Avenue / 18th Avenue
  • West End Avenue / 19th Avenue
  • West End Avenue / 20th Avenue
  • West End Avenue / 21st Avenue
  • West End Avenue / 23rd Avenue
  • West End Avenue / 25th Avenue / Elliston Place
  • West End Avenue / 28th Avenue

Street Lights
170 street lights will be replaced along the West End Avenue corridor.  Street light replacement is financed through Metro Nashville capital funds.  The limits of construction along Broadway / West End Avenue are between I-40/65 near downtown and I-440.

Estimated completion date:  Mid-November 2009 (weather permitting)
