The Planning and Coordination Unit is an outgrowth of a recommendation in the recent social services audit, which called for the department to focus on service coordination and management. With the Director, Dinah Gregory, and her staff of five, the unit seeks to do the following:
- Develop and maintain a long-range plan for the delivery of social services in Davidson County.
- Identify social service needs, particularly in the youth, senior, homeless and immigrant populations.
- Develop service strategies to meet needs.
- Track trends and changes in social service needs over time.
- Coordinate social service delivery with community partners throughout Davidson
- County to minimize overlapping services and administrative costs.
- Conduct regularly scheduled social services needs assessment meetings with various government, private and community agencies.
- Assist partner agencies in seeking federal, state, or foundation grants.
- Identify and contract with appropriate agencies for service delivery.
- Manage Metro Social Services service-delivery contracts.
- Monitor social service needs of the community.
- Encourage partner agencies to utilize available resources to provide effective and efficient delivery of services to those in need.
- Planning and Coordination Unit – Services for Targeted Populations
The planning and coordination unit will assess the needs of the community, review available community resources, and work with local social service providers to meet identified needs. The planning and coordination unit will focus its efforts on the youth, senior, homeless, and immigrant populations. Specific actions for the targeted populations are listed below.
Youth Service Coordination 615-862-6419
- Collaborate with community partner agencies to better serve the youth population.
- Address the needs of the most vulnerable youth through issues related to education, child care and juvenile justice, among others.
Senior Service Coordination 615-862-6975
- Serve as a liaison with community agencies providing services to the adult/senior population.
- Assess the needs of the adult and senior populations by developing strategies to meet those needs through assisted living programs, transportation, adult day care and relative care, among others.
Homeless Service Coordination 615-862-6411
- Aid in the implementation of recommendations from the Mayor’s Task Force to End Chronic Homelessness.
- Staff the Homeless Commission.
- Collaborate with local agencies to promote adequate housing and support services for the homeless population through long-term planning.
Immigrant Service Coordination 615-862-6459
- Promote integration of the immigrant communities and local communities.
- Provide coordination and technical assistance to local agencies that serve the refugee and legal immigrant populations.
- Monitor immigrant community needs by facilitating regularly scheduled needs assessment meetings.
