New and Renewal Process
- Complete Tennessee Notary Application.
- Application must be notarized.
- Election of each applicant will be considered by the Metropolitan Council the first Tuesday of every other month January, March, May, July, September, and November.
- Applications must be submitted 2 weeks prior to the council meeting.
Bond
After election by The Metropolitan Council and before commencing duties or exercising powers, a notary must post bond in the amount of $10,000 by a surety company authorized in Tennessee.
Follow-up
- Following election by the Metropolitan Council, an approval letter will be mailed.
- Once this letter is received, the newly elected notary must visit the main office to file bond and pay fee.
Fees
- $12.00 new and renewal application
- $2.00 filing bond
Change of Address
Notaries public changing residence or principal place of business to another Tennessee county, must submit a notarized change of address form to the county clerk from which they were elected. There is a $7.00 fee.

- A notary public must furnish their own seal. Embossed notary seals are not accepted.
