When are the polls open for voting?
On Election Day, voting locations are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. During Early Voting, weekday hours vary. Early Voting locations are open some evenings and Saturdays. Check the Early Voting schedule for times and locations.
If I have to move to another state just before a Presidential Election, does that mean I will lose my vote?
If you are a registered voter and change your state of residency within thirty (30) days of a Presidential Election, and cannot meet the registration requirements of your new state for that election, you may cast your ballot for President and Vice President in the precinct where you were last registered.
What if my name has changed – how do I update my voter registration?
If your name has changed due to marriage or divorce, simply update your voter registration online.
How do I get another voter registration card?

How do I change my voter registration address?
If you have moved within Davidson County, you have several options for updating your address. You may submit your new address online at ovr.govote.tn.gov OR mail, email or fax a signed Change of Address Request to our office. You may also write your new address on your current voter registration card, sign it, and mail to our office OR stop by one of our two office locations for assistance. Your request must be signed and received by our office no later than five days before an election.
Why is my voter status Inactive?
If your voter status is showing Inactive, our records indicate that you may have moved, triggering an Address Confirmation Notice to be mailed to you. It is important to know that being Inactive does not mean you cannot vote. It just means we need to verify your address. Either return the Address Confirmation Notice or verify, in writing, that your address is correct.
When is the deadline to register to vote?
Your new registration must be submitted online or postmarked or hand-delivered to either of our offices no later than thirty (30) days before an election, in order to vote in that election.
Am I registered to vote?

Do I need my voter registration card to vote?
No. The voter card issued by our office provides information, such as your Voter ID#, Election Day Polling Location, Council District, School District, etc. While the Voter ID# helps us locate you more quickly in our system, the card is not required to vote. Please refer to What Do I Bring to Vote for photo ID requirements.
What is a Primary Election?
A Primary Election is an election that narrows the field of candidates before a General Election.
What do I bring to vote?
You must present a federal or Tennessee state ID with your name and photograph to vote. The most commonly used photo ID is a Tennessee Driver License. You do not have to present the new REAL ID or your Voter Registration Card to vote.
Why should I vote during Early Voting?
Early Voting is convenient since you can vote at any Early Voting location. (On Election Day, you must vote at your assigned location.) Early Voting is available some evenings and on Saturdays. Waits (if any) are usually shorter than on Election Day, and you can update your address more quickly at any Early Voting location vs. on Election Day.
What if I’ve moved to a different Tennessee county – do voter registrations transfer?
Your voter registration does not transfer to other counties in Tennessee. You must register in your new county by submitting an Application for Voter Registration to your local county election commission office thirty (30) days prior to an election. To register online, go to ovr.govote.tn.gov.

If I didn’t vote in the Primary Election, can I still vote in the General or Presidential Election?
Yes. Voting in the Primary Election is not a requirement for voting in General Elections.
