A resolution recognizing Robert A. “Bob” Lackey for his 46 years of outstanding service to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
WHEREAS, Robert A. “Bob” Lackey is retiring in June 2020 after serving the Metropolitan Government in various roles under nine mayors for the past 46 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey is a resident of Metro Council District 29; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey graduated from Antioch High School in 1968; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey graduated from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN in 1972; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey is the son of John and Dorothy Lackey who supported and encouraged his work in public service; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey has been married to Mary Lackey and they will happily celebrate their 47th anniversary this summer; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey and his wife Mary are the proud parents of Russell and Chris Lackey and have two grandchildren Analayne and Leighton; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey’s immediate family including his mother Dorothy, sons Russell and Chris have combined service of more than a century to the Metropolitan Government; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey began his service with the Metropolitan Government Finance Department in 1974 under Finance Director Joe Torrence, after working with the state Comptroller’s Office; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey has spent most of his entire professional career serving in the Metro Finance Department; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey has had the honor to serve every Mayor since Metro was formed: Mayor Beverly Briley, Mayor Richard Fulton, Mayor Bill Boner, Mayor Phil Bredesen, Mayor Bill Purcell, Mayor Karl Dean, Mayor Megan Barry, Mayor David Briley and Mayor John Cooper; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey has worked with eleven Finance Directors during his tenure: Joe Torrence, Kenneth Schoen, Robert Horton, Charlie Cardwell, Eugene Nolan, Charles Cook, Joe Huddleston, David Manning, Richard Riebeling, Talia Lomax-O’dneal, Kevin Crumbo; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey has worked on many high-profile projects including the Nashville Convention Center, the Music City Center, Nissan Stadium and Bridgestone Arena; and
WHEREAS, among many other duties, Mr. Lackey current serves as Metro’s liaison for the District Energy System; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey has served the Metro government and the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County with distinction, high ethical standards and expertise; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lackey’s service and accomplishments are evidence of his love for this city and its people and epitomize the role of a public servant for other employees to model.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Robert A. “Bob” Lackey on the occasion of his retirement, and thanking him for his many faithful years of service to the Metropolitan Government.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Robert A. “Bob” Lackey.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
