Resolution RS2019-1724

A resolution recognizing the 30th Anniversary of the Nashville Children’s Choir.

WHEREAS, Nashville Children’s Choir is a regional music program in residence at Belmont University that includes three sequenced choirs for choristers in grades three through eight: the Preparatory Choir, the Concert Choir and the Touring Choir, plus the Nashville Youth Choir for choristers in grades nine through twelve; and

WHEREAS, the Touring Choir serves a dual role as a quality choral organization and as an ambassador of good will, having performed with the Nashville Ballet, the Nashville Opera, the Nashville Symphony and local recording artists including Joe Diffie, Reba McEntire, Michael W. Smith and Jennifer Nettles; and

WHEREAS, destinations for the Touring Choir have included New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto, Atlanta and Boston. The Touring Choir has made several national television appearances including CMA Christmas and the acclaimed Christmas at Belmont; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Children’s Choir has enjoyed prestigious invitations to perform at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, the New Orleans Jazz festival, and national conferences of music educators; and

WHEREAS, on Saturday, May 11, 2019, the Nashville Children’s Choir will celebrate thirty years in an anniversary performance at Nashville First Baptist Church featuring Alumni who will join and sing with the choirs; and

WHEREAS, this thirtieth anniversary season will conclude with the Nashville Children’s Choir participating in the Costa Rica International Choral Festival for Peace in June; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Madeline Bridges is retiring after conducting the Nashville Children’s Choir for twenty-nine years, inspiring young voices and leading hundreds of choristers since 1990; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council hereby recognizes the Nashville Children’s Choir for its thirty years of service to young singers in the Nashville and Middle Tennessee community, its musical excellence, this thirtieth Anniversary musical performance, and further recognizes and honors Dr. Madeline Bridges for nearly three decades of devoted leadership, enriching the lives of children through quality choral music, and her musical excellence as Co-Conductor of the Touring Choir and Program Director of the Nashville Children’s Choir Program.


Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 30th Anniversary of the Nashville Children’s Choir.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
