Resolution RS2020-252

A resolution honoring I. C. “Rip” Ryman for his many years of service and contributions to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee.

WHEREAS, I.C. “Rip” Ryman has diligently and faithfully served the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County in a variety of roles since 1980; and

WHEREAS, Rip Ryman graduated from East High School in 1952 before serving his country during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954; and

WHEREAS, after returning home from the war, Mr. Ryman attended Belmont College and the University of Tennessee at Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ryman was employed by Western Electric Company from 1955 until 1985, and served as a member of Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Development and Housing Authority from 1980 to 1985; and

WHEREAS, after retiring from Western Electric in 1985, Rip Ryman was appointed by Mayor Fulton as a Special Assistant to the Mayor; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ryman continued to serve as Special Assistant to the Mayor for all four years of Mayor Boner’s term, and all eight years of Mayor Bredesen’s term; and

WHEREAS, in 2003, Rip Ryman was elected as Councilmember for District 10 representing the Goodlettsville area, a position he held until being term limited in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ryman has a great love for baseball, serving as the State Director of Dixie Youth Baseball for 27 years and as past treasurer and president of the Old Timers Baseball Association; and

WHERAS, Mr. Ryman was given the prestigious “Mr. Baseball” award in 2012 at the 74th Old Timers banquet; and

WHEREAS, in 2013, Mayor Dean appointed Mr. Ryman to serve on the Sports Authority, where he still serves today; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council hereby recognize Mr. Ryman for his many years of dedicated service and his outstanding contributions to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.


Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring the service and contributions of Mr. I. C. “Rip” Ryman.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is hereby directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Ryman.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
