Man Dies After Monday Night's Two-Vehicle Crash at Chestnut Street & 2nd Avenue
July 9, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The man killed as the result of Monday night’s two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Chestnut Street and 2nd Avenue South is identified as Keith Verge, 47, of Neill Avenue.
Verge was driving a 1993 Buick Roadmaster west on Chestnut Street when he made a right turn, against a red light, onto 2nd Avenue. When he did so, the Buick collided with a 2002 Nissan Xterra, which was traveling north on 2nd Avenue and had the green light. Both Verge and the driver of the Nissan, Amilcar Gamez, 48, of Nashville, were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where Verge later died. Gamez’s injuries were non-critical.
The preliminary contributing factor to this crash is failure to yield on the part of Verge. There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene.
