3/1/2014

Citizens are encouraged to prepare for sleet and ice

NASHVILLE, Tenn – Metro Nashville and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) are monitoring and preparing for extreme winter weather conditions.  Metro’s Emergency Operations Center will  partially activate at 6 p.m. Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Middle Tennessee beginning at 9 p.m. Sunday evening extending into Monday morning.

Metro Public Works Winter Operations will be activated and crews will be working in full force to prepare and clear roadways.

Road conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly as ice accumulates late Sunday into early Monday.  Icy conditions will remain into Monday, making travel conditions hazardous.

Motorists are are encouraged to stay off the roads and to allow time for Public Works crews to clear the roads. If driving is necessary, motorists should always check road conditions before getting out and allow extra space between vehicles so there is adequate distance for braking in wet and icy conditions.

Officials will continue to monitor the latest weather information and will provide updates as necessary.
