Single-Vehicle Crash Claims 3-Year-Old Girl

August 18, 2014

A single-vehicle crash on Bull Run Road this afternoon claimed the life of three-year-old Vanessa Leon.
The girl’s mother, Dolores Garcia, 39, was driving her 2006 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound in the 4600 block of Bull Run Road when she entered a curve, left the roadway, and struck a utility pole at 3 p.m.  Vanessa was in a rear child safety seat that dislodged and struck the back of the driver’s seat. She was transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where she died.  Garcia, who lives on Bull Run Road, is being treated for serious injuries. She was wearing her seat belt.  There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene.
Excessive speed may have played a role in this fatal crash.
