Outstanding work by Violent Crimes Division detectives, in coordination with the Rapid School Safety team, Canine Unit and Aviation Unit, led to Monday’s arrest of 10 juveniles from two stolen vehicles that are alleged to have been used in recent armed robberies.
Detectives located a stolen Kia Soul at Cane Ridge Park where occupants were meeting up with those inside a Nissan Maxima. The Maxima was taken in an armed carjacking Sunday morning on Murfreesboro Pike by three male suspects.
Aviation and VCD detectives followed both vehicles as they separated on Murfreesboro Pike.
The stolen Maxima pulled into a gas station where detectives took the four teenage occupants into custody. During the arrest, the 17-year-old driver attempted to flee while the passengers (two age 14 and one 17) began throwing firearms out of the windows.
Two pistols, one of which was stolen, and an automatic rifle were recovered from outside the vehicle.
Shortly after the four occupants of the Maxima were taken into custody, the stolen Kia Soul was followed to Post Oak Drive where all six occupants, including the 14-year-old driver, (two age 15, two age 14 and one 13-year-old) got out and ran before being quickly apprehended.
All 10 teens charges range from juvenile handgun possession, theft of a firearm, vehicle theft, joyriding, and evading arrest. The 17-year-old driver of the Maxima was charged with aggravated robbery.
The investigation by Violent Crimes detectives is ongoing. Additional charges are anticipated.
