Nashville joins New York City and the state of New Jersey as a host site for Diversity in Arts Leadership (DIAL) 2020 internships, a program from Americans for the Arts (AFTA) matching undergraduate students from backgrounds traditionally untapped for arts leadership with dynamic communities, energetic host arts organizations, and business mentors, to guide students’ personal and professional growth throughout the summer.
The Metro Nashville Arts Commission (Metro Arts) will serve as the local arts coordinating agency for Nashville DIAL interns and organizations. DIAL’s nationwide, competitive selection process will grant paid, ten-week-long internships as well as housing and transportation assistance. Calling Nashville “one of the most culturally rich cities in the country,” AFTA describes the Nashville internships as “perfect for those who envision learning about arts and cultural engagements in growing cities, and are eager to explore the city in all its vibrancy.”
“We are proud to be part of AFTA’s work to encourage equity and diversity in the field of arts administration, which perfectly aligns with our agency’s mission to drive a vibrant and equitable community through the arts,” said Metro Arts Executive Director Caroline Vincent. “And we are always thrilled when Nashville is nationally recognized for its abundance of arts and culture.”
Interested students and prospective host organizations can read more about the program on the DIAL website. The deadline for intern applications is January 10, 2020, while organizations must complete the art host application process by January 24, 2020.
