If you missed the opportunity during the 2023 assessment year to appeal your property value, the 2024 Informal Review opens December 1, 2023. In previous years, the request for an Informal Review opened immediately after the Office of the Trustee mailed tax bills in October. However, this year, the appeal process for Davidson County property owners opens December 1, 2023, due to this year's conversion of the Office of the Assessor of Property's Computerized Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) system. Also due to this year's CAMA conversion, the Office of the Assessor of Property's staff will take Informal Review requests by phone or by email. This process for just this year is slightly different than in previous years where Informal Review requests were primarily entered on-line.
"It is important that we remind residential, commercial, and personal property owners of their option to file an Informal Review for the 2024 assessment year. We want property owners to take advantage of every opportunity available to them when it comes to their property, one of the largest investments that they will make in their life," says Vivian Wilhoite, Assessor of Property of Metropolitan Nashville & Davidson County. Wilhoite goes on the say, "The Informal Review process is one of many annual opportunities for property owners who request a review to share with us information as to why they believe their property should be a different value." Assessor Wilhoite goes on to say it is critically important to know that if your Informal Review results in a change of property value, it will not affect your 2023 tax billing, but will be effective for the 2024 assessment year. The deadline to file an Informal Review for 2024 is April 26, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. Decisions will be mailed by May 17, 2024.
To file an Informal Review by phone, please call the Office of Assessments at 615-862-6080. To file by email, please send to [email protected]. In the email, please include the owner's name; the person's name filing the Informal Review if you are not the owner; your contact number; the address of the property; your opinion of the property value; and, any documents that support your opinion of value.
