The Metro Council’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget hearings conclude this evening. This week’s hearings were with the Finance Department, the Mayor's Office, MTA/WeGo, and NDOT (Wednesday) and Parks and Recreation, the Library, Water Services, and the Arts Commission (Thursday, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.). As of this evening, the Budget and Finance Committee will have completed twenty-one departmental hearings in concert with associated committee chairs.
With departmental hearings concluded, and council members’ review of the budget well underway, “wish lists” compiled by individual council members for Budget and Finance Committee Chair Delishia Porterfield's consideration in the formulation of her proposed substitute budget are due this evening at 6:30 p.m. Budget and Finance Committee work sessions will begin Tuesday, May 28 at 4:00 p.m. Five sessions are scheduled, with two optional dates if needed.
The Council Public Hearing for the Budget Ordinance will be on Tuesday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. The Council previously offered a Pre-Budget Public Comment Period on February 6. The deadline for the filing of the Budget and Finance Committee Chair’s Substitute Ordinance is June 12. The Metro Charter requires the final passage of the Budget no later than June 30.
Budget and Finance Committee Chair Delishia Porterfield will host the final two of five total community listening sessions on the Budget this Saturday, May 25, at 10:00 a.m. at the Southeast Community Center, 5260 Hickory Hollow Parkway, and 2:00 p.m. at the Hermitage Library, 3700 James Kay Lane. "I hope the community will join us for this weekend’s community budget listening sessions to learn more about our budget process," says Chair Porterfield. "I am looking forward to working with the Budget and Finance Committee members to craft a strong substitute budget that prioritizes the wishes of my colleagues and our shared constituents."
