The Oversight Board received notification from the Department of Emergency Communications at 8:32 p.m. that a police officer shooting had occurred at the Frugal McDoogal’s located at 700 Division Street. Director Jill Fitcheard spoke with Metro Nashville Police Department’s Community Oversight Board Liaison Commander Carlos Lara who provided a preliminary update on the circumstances. Director Fitcheard responded to the scene and was briefed by Criminal Investigation Division Commander Captain Brian Anderson who released detailed information about the incident. Community Oversight Investigators Amy Simmons and April Williams arrived on the scene and were updated. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) was also on the scene. Director Fitcheard and Community Oversight Investigator’s responded to Police Department HQ’s and were able to view the Body Worn Camera (BWC) videos of Police officers involved in the shooting.
On Friday, June 3, 2022, at 9:15 a.m., Director Fitcheard was contacted by Commander Carlos Lara and extended an invitation to report to the Frugal McDoogal’s to view the interior location of where the Nashville Police Department officer involved shooting took place. Director Fitcheard and Investigator Williams arrived at the location and were met by Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Assistant Special Agent-In-Charge and Police Department Criminal Investigation Division Commander who gave a detailed explanation of the incident. Both were given the opportunity to walk-through the shooting scene and all their questions were answered.
Director Fitcheard will initiate an independent investigation into the shooting and will ask the District Attorney General to release the investigative findings to Metro Nashville Community Oversight at the completion of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s investigation.
