This Friday, May 19, 2023, Trustee Erica S. Gilmore and the Office of The Metropolitan Trustee in partnership with Junior Achievement, MNPS and Johnson Alternative Learning Center will hold a graduation ceremony for area students who recently completed the JA "Economics for Success" program. This marks the second successful year Trustee Gilmore's office has volunteered to teach financial education in Metro Schools.
Along with the Trustee, prominent business leader and entrepreneur Robert C. Sherrill will speak to the JALS Students on his life experience and inspire them on their future possibilities. This semester the students not only learned the financial fundamentals, but upon the completion of the course will receive a $100 startup from the Trustee to open a checking account and begin their financial journey.
"We believe financial education should be accessible to all. Financial literacy is a fundamental tool that will launch these students onto success in life," says Trustee Gilmore.
