Metropolis, the technology company whose computer vision platform enables checkout-free payment experiences, announced today it is expanding its already popular Metropolis Musicians Discount Program dedicated to lowering parking costs for local musicians playing in venues across the city.
The program began as a partnership between Metropolis, the Mayor's Office of Nightlife, Nashville Musicians Association AFM Local 257, and the Committee for Downtown Musicians and Workers, but beginning in February, it will expand to include musicians playing the independent venues through the addition of the Music Venue Alliance Nashville as a partner.
"We launched our Musicians Discount to support the people who work so hard to keep Nashville Music City," said Ryan Hunt, Chief Revenue Officer, Metropolis. "As we've evolved the program, we want to be sure it includes not just those playing major downtown venues but also the many musicians playing smaller, independent venues across the city. We want to help musicians in our city no matter where they're playing."
Just in the last year, Metropolis provided more than $20,000 in discounted parking to local musicians in 12 parking facilities. With the expansion, the footprint of available facilities will nearly double to 23 and the number of musicians impacted will grow exponentially. The Mayor's Office of Nightlife was particularly instrumental in helping expand the discount program last year and has helped usher in this latest evolution by bringing partners from around the city to the table.
"When private, homegrown companies step up to support a crucial piece of our city's culture, it's something we should all celebrate," said Night Mayor Benton McDonough. "Metropolis has been incredibly generous and creative with their Musicians Discount, and I thank them for their continued efforts to provide relief for musicians. I look forward to seeing how others in the private sector could use this as inspiration for supporting local workers who are the engine of our success."
"We are ecstatic that Metropolis has now brought independent venues into this amazing program," said Chris Cobb, President of the Music Venue Alliance Nashville. "As we discovered through the Greater Nashville Music Census, parking has become one of the greatest concerns for our local music community as Nashville has grown. Metropolis stepping up in such a big way to help us address that issue is a major win. This is a great example of what can happen when we work together and prioritize keeping Music City music friendly for those who keep the engine running every day."
"Local 257 has worked on musician parking, loading, and security issues for over a decade, and is proud to have initiated the first parking discount program." said Dave Pomeroy, President, Nashville Musicians Association. "Musicians are the lifeblood of Nashville, so it's great to see Metropolis continue to expand the parking discounts. These efforts represent the essential respect and support our hard-working union members deserve."
"We worked hand-in-hand with Metropolis last year to expand this discount program and our members saw the benefits immediately," said Sasha McVeigh, Director, Committee for Downtown Musicians and Workers. "Bringing MVAN into the fold will only make the program more impactful. I want to thank Metropolis for their continued partnership on this front and for being so willing to build out this wonderful program."
The Metropolis Musicians Discount Program won national recognition last year from the NITECAP Alliance, a network of professionals responsible for nighttime economy advocacy, planning and management, who applauded its creativity and success.
Metropolis' technology not only enables a seamless payment experience, it allows for fully customizable discount and validation programs like the Metropolis Musicians Discount for its members and partners.
Co-headquartered in Nashville and Los Angeles, Metropolis develops and deploys cutting-edge computer vision technology to enable a drive in and drive out payment experience for consumers while increasing transparency, capturing revenue and reducing costs for real estate owners. To date, Metropolis has focused on bringing this checkout-free technology to its managed parking facilities, enabling top-tier real estate owners to capture revenue from more than nine million members on its platform, representing more than 4% of all licensed drivers in the United States.
