The Community Oversight Board (COB) staff is proud to announce that Christopher Clausi has joined Metro Nashville Community Oversight (MNCO) as Assistant Director. Clausi assumed the role on Monday, March 16.
The recent addition to the MNCO staff reflects a change in the COB’s management group that also includes the recent promotion of Jill Fitcheard to the position of Executive Director. Clausi will work alongside Fitcheard in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the MNCO staff.
Clausi comes to the MNCO with an extensive background in law enforcement. He is a retired police lieutenant with 23 years of experience. During his service, he created the first Community Oriented Policing program and Police Mountain Bike Unit. He also supervised the Internal Affairs Division and Professional Standards Division. This gave him the opportunity to oversee investigations of police misconduct, while also providing policy review and proof of policy compliance throughout the entire department.
“We excitedly welcome Mr. Christopher Clausi to the MNCO team,” says Fitcheard. “His extensive knowledge of law enforcement and governmental operations, coupled with his strong passion to serve the Nashville community, will be a tremendous asset to our organization. Mr. Clausi has demonstrated his drive and commitment to the work of police accountability, and we are thrilled to have him on board.”
Clausi shares that he has always had a passion to serve others, especially those who need the services and/or protections of our legal system but don’t equally receive them. His interest in serving as a member of the MNCO staff came the day he saw the first open position to serve. He knew then that he wanted to be part of this focused advancement of change that rewrites the expectations of policing services in the Metro Nashville Community.
“I believe police oversight is bigger than just the MNPD and the community they serve,” says Clausi. “Oversight is an imperative for all police departments and communities throughout this country. It is my hope that the progress we make here, in Nashville, will forever change and greatly enhance police community relations and expectations not only in our community but across the country.”
Clausi holds his bachelor’s degree in Management and Ethics from Williamson Christian College in Franklin, TN. He holds a juris doctorate degree from Nashville School of Law. He currently serves as a faculty member for The National Drug Court Institute.
