At a dedicated meeting today, the Community Oversight Board (COB) unanimously voted to accept Mayor Cooper’s invitation to be a member of the Use of Force Committee which includes the reviewing of MNPD’s use of force policies and national best practices.
A letter has been sent to the Mayor from the COB with specific recommendations on how to move forward with forming the committee. Specifically, the COB strongly recommends that the following community groups be invited to join the Use of Force Committee:
- Nashville Natives
- Youth
- Formerly Incarcerated Individuals
- Racially Diverse Nashville Natives
- Faith Leader Community
- Senior Citizen Community
- LGBTQ Community (with a specific focus on Trans Women of Color)
- Homeless Community
- Immigrant Community
The COB looks forward to working with Mayor Cooper, his administration and the Use of Force Committee to continue to improve the public safety for the Nashville community.
