Metro Nashville Community Oversight was notified of a police officer involved shooting that occurred today at approximately 9:30 a.m.
Executive Director Jill Fitcheard received multiple telephone calls from MNPD officials and was briefed about the ongoing investigation. She and Metro Nashville Community Oversight Investigator V. Johnson arrived on the scene at approximately 10:30 a.m. and were once again given the latest update by police officials about the situation. Both were walked to the area where the shooting occurred and were able to observe the evidence as it was collected by the TBI’s Crime Scene Investigations team. MNPD and the TBI Agent in Charge updated Fitcheard and Johnson continually with new information as it was received.
As with all police officer involved shootings, Metro Nashville Community Oversight will open its own administrative investigation to determine if any violations of MNPD policy occurred. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation and Community Oversight will be in contact with them and the District Attorney’s Office for periodic updates about this incident.
