Non-Local Dealer Vehicle Purchases

Title applications for vehicles purchased out of state are handled at our main office. Applications should be sent to the Davidson County Clerk mailing address shown below.

The following documents must be submitted to our office to properly title and register a vehicle in Davidson County.

• Properly reassigned title or manufacturer’s certificate of origin
• Itemized bill of sale (must include purchase price, trade in, and any applicable sales tax that has been collected)
• The odometer disclosure statement if applicable
• Previous vehicle registration if customer is transferring a license plate from another vehicle (Registration must be in the same name as the new vehicle)
• Proof of residency
• Power of attorney or multipurpose application form signed by the customer

For leased vehicles the documents below are required:

• Properly reassigned title or manufacturer’s certificate of origin
• Itemized bill of sale (must include purchase price, trade in, and any applicable sales tax that has been collected)
• The odometer disclosure statement if applicable
• Previous vehicle registration if customer is transferring a license plate from another vehicle (Registration must be in the same name as the new vehicle)
• Proof of residency
• Power of attorney from lease company
• Tennessee Sales Tax ID number from lease company
• Vehicle Owner’s Authorization

For a nominal fee an additional copy of the registration can be mailed.

Non-Local Dealers Checklist

• The original MCO/MSO or title properly reassigned
• Bill of Sale
• Odometer disclosure
• Multi-purpose application
• Cover sheet for out of state/non-local dealers
• Copy of ID/Driver's License
• Two proofs of residency
• Customer phone number
• Vehicle color (must be listed on bill of sale or multi-purpose application)
