Digital Navigators: Helping Everyone Get Connected
The Digital Navigator model, created by the Digital US Coalition in 2019, is a flexible way for community organizations to bring digital access into their existing programs. In Metro Nashville and Davidson County, we're using this model to connect people with technology and support through our strong network of nonprofits.
A Flexible and Helpful Approach
Digital Navigators do more than just teach digital skills—they help people find affordable internet, access tech support, and connect to education and job training programs. These services help build digital confidence and independence, making sure everyone can fully participate in today's online world.
What Does a Digital Navigator Do?
A Digital Navigator works closely with people—either in person or remotely—to help them on their digital journey. Whether someone needs basic computer skills, help applying for jobs online, or advanced training for their small business, a Navigator figures out what they need and connects them to the right resources.
By training staff at trusted nonprofit organizations, we make sure they can help people access education, find jobs, apply for housing, get food assistance, and much more. Plus, our Digital Navigators provide ongoing support to make sure everyone gets the help they need.
How It Works
How do Digital Navigators find the right resources for each person? In 2023, Metro Nashville surveyed 68 nonprofit organizations to learn more about the programs already available in the community. This research helps Navigators match people with services that fit their unique needs, making sure help is always close by.
With training from a trusted statewide partner, local organizations are prepared to deliver this important service and ensure that all Nashvillians have access to the technology and skills they need.
