Today, Mayor John Cooper announced that he has successfully entered a friendly wager with Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas on the outcome of the 2020 AFC Championship Game featuring the preeminent Tennessee Titans versus the Kansas City Chiefs. After a thrilling 35-32 victory over the Chiefs during the regular season, the Titans went on to defeat the Baltimore Ravens in a 28-12 upset in the AFC Divisional Round.
Mayor Cooper’s wager features products around Nashville’s famous hot chicken, which also includes vegan goods in honor of 15 Titans players who have recently switched to a plant-based diet, including linebacker Derrick Morgan and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jurrell Casey:
- The Southern V: “Nashville Hot Chick’n”
- Batch Nashville: “Hot Like Nashville Chicken, Sweet Like Nashville GooGoos” box
- Brittle Brothers : “Nashville Hot” Peanut Brittle
- The Cupcake Collection : Specialty cupcakes
- The Loveless Cafe: Biscuit mix and jams
- Prince’s Hot Chicken: Souvenirs
“The Titans are favored over the Chiefs by anyone who knows better,” said Mayor Cooper. “Our team has been dominant since the mid-season. They’re primed, ready, and hungry – about as hungry as my good friend Mayor Lucas will be when it turns out he won’t be receiving any of Nashville’s fabulous goodies. The Chiefs haven’t been to the Super Bowl in 50 years. The good news is, there’s always fantastic food being served up right here in Music City.”
In return, Mayor Lucas is wagering Kansas City barbecue and other barbecue-themed products made or sourced in the Kansas City area.
The Mayor’s Office reminds all Tennessee Titans fans that they are invited to a free outdoor viewing party on Lower Broadway this Sunday to watch the team play in the AFC Championship Game. Festivities will include two large screens to view the 2:05 p.m. CT game against the Kansas City Chiefs being held in Kansas City. The Titans cheerleaders and drum line will make an appearance at the viewing party. Official Titans merchandise will be available for purchase. The viewing party is being held by the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp.
