Programs and Initiatives
Mayor's Office of New Americans
The Mayor's Office of New Americans fosters partnerships and collaborations with Nashville’s immigrant and refugee communities to improve the City’s programs and services to meet the needs of all constituents. The group develops and administers programs that empower and engage New Americans in Davidson County, and that promote an equitable, inclusive, knowledgeable, safe, and connected community. The Mayor’s Office of New Americans coordinates with community organizations and with departments and agencies of the Metro Government and advises the Mayor on policies related to New Americans in Davidson County.

Metro Leadership Diversity
The Mayor is committed to making sure the government of Nashville is representative of the population itself. In addition to having a diverse office staff, the Mayor has emphasized the importance of appointing a diverse cross-section of Nashvillians to Boards and Commissions. The Mayor has been intentional about seeking out the most qualified individuals who bring a level of expertise, perspective, and understanding about the board or commission, who also represent various groups and can offer unique perspectives when making decisions that will impact all of the residents of our city. Boards and commission members carry out important work and are a way for dedicated citizens to show their commitment and lend their voices to the city.
Business Diversity
Metro Government seeks to procure from a diversity of supplier types. There are initiatives in place to support your interactions with the city as a business owner. The Procurement Division serves as the central contracting office for Metro, and serves approximately 51 departments, agencies, commissions, and boards, and works to ensure fairness, equality, and economic inclusion. The Office of Minority and Women Business Assistance work to stimulate economic growth by preparing and developing small, minority, women, and service disabled veteran owned businesses so that they can participate effectively in city procurements and become positive contributors to the Nashville economy.
Workforce and Place Diversity
The Mayor’s Office works to increase the overall diversity of Metro’s workforce. The Metro Human Resources department compiles quarterly demographic reports of Metro department employment. Veterans Services
The Office of Mayor O'Connell is committed to working collaboratively with government agencies and community-based organizations to advocate and coordinate services for Veterans in Nashville. At last count, nearly 700 Veterans work for Metro Government and roughly 37,000 Veterans live in Davidson County, the second largest amount in Tennessee.
