Mayor John Cooper today announced the formation of the Neighborhood Academy, an initiative of the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhoods and Community Engagement. The mission of Neighborhood Academy is to engage, equip, and empower Nashvillians to participate in and affect improvements to Metro government in ways that strengthen our neighborhoods.
Applications are open to anyone 18 and over who lives in Davidson County. Prospective participants can apply online until March 12, 2021.
The program’s curriculum is designed to complement the efforts of other civic engagement programs by helping participants re-discover Nashville’s civic processes and programs, identify issues affecting our community, and learn how to recommend public policies that improve our neighborhoods.
Neighborhood Academy is held once a year as seven sessions from March to September, covering the functions of Metro government, city budget and finance, neighborhood health and safety, infrastructure, planning, and education.
Sessions are held virtually from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the last Thursday of every month. More information will be provided once participants sign up online.
