Earlier this month, the Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC) announced funding opportunities for area partners to engage youth in summer work experiences. The last Day for Proposals for Summer Youth Workers is Friday.
MAC's POWER Youth Summer Employment Program is seeking project proposals from Davidson County organizations and businesses to host youth ages 14-15 years old. Funds are awarded to cover the cost of materials for the work experience. Additionally, the Metro Action Commission covers the work stipends of the youth for their participation in the program.
The POWER Youth program begins June 3 to July 19 offering project-based work experiences for young people in areas such as academics, arts, music and athletic interests.
Last year, Metro Action awarded 16 grants to community organizations which resulted in over 400 youth ages 14-15 years old participating. Additionally, the agency also provided employment opportunities to older youth ages 16-18 which resulted in a combined total of nearly 1,000 youth participating in work experiences or employed over the summer.
Organizations applying for funding for youth 14-15 years should demonstrate an integration of career exploration and development and healthy lifestyles that prepare Metro Nashville's youth to become successful adults.
Applications are due Friday, February 2 at 4:30 p.m. CST.
