THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY

SUBJECT: POLICE SECONDARY EMPLOYMENT
WHEREAS, the public's confidence in the management and operation of the Metropolitan Department of Police is of paramount importance; and
WHEREAS, secondary employment can result in concerns over potential conflicts of interest, misuse of confidential police information, the appearance of favoritism; and availability for emergencies and special assignments; and
WHEREAS, in order to promote and protect the public's confidence in the management and operation of the Metropolitan Department of Police it is important to regulate secondary employment.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Bill Purcell, Mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County by virtue of the power and authority vested in me, do hereby direct and order that:
1. Police Department Chief and Assistant Chiefs. Effective with the signing of this executive order, the Chief of Police and all Assistant Chiefs of Police shall devote their entire time and attention to the business of the Metropolitan Department of Police and shall not engage in any secondary employment.
2. Revised General Order. Within 90 days from the signing of this executive order, the Chief of Police shall promulgate and submit for the approval of the Metropolitan County Mayor a revised general order regulating the secondary employment of the Metropolitan Department of Police.
