Executive Order 28
Subject: Diversity Advisory Committee
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County (the Metropolitan Government) is a rapidly growing community with a diverse population; and
WHEREAS, although significant progress has been made toward ensuring that the government’s workforce reflects Nashville’s rich diversity, additional efforts are needed to continue the momentum that has been created; and
WHEREAS, an advisory committee for the Metropolitan Government that promotes and encourages a diverse workforce would further Nashville’s goal of being a truly representative city.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Freddie O’Connell, Mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me, do hereby find, direct, and order the following:
I. There is hereby created and established for the Metropolitan Government a Diversity Advisory Committee.
II. Responsibility and Authority: The Diversity Advisory Committee shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Mayor of the Metropolitan Government. The goal of the Diversity Advisory Committee is to develop a plan that will ultimately assist all Metropolitan Government agencies, boards, and commissions in their efforts to recruit, hire, and retain a workforce that is inclusive and representative of Nashville’s local demographics and that serves as an example for the employers of this city.
III. Composition: The Diversity Advisory Committee shall consist of a minimum of 15 members from the Metropolitan Government having a broad range of perspectives to be selected and appointed by the Mayor.
- The Chief Diversity Officer shall also serve as a member of the Committee and Co-chairs shall be appointed by the Mayor.
- The Committee may elect such additional officers as it finds necessary and appropriate.
- A quorum for approving decisions by the Committee shall consist of a majority of the appointed members of the Committee.
- Members of the Diversity Advisory Committee shall serve without compensation.
IV. Terms and Meetings:
- The members of the Committee shall continue in office until such time as they are replaced by the Mayor.
- The meetings of the Committee shall be held at a date, time and place to be determined by the Co-chairs.
V. Cooperation by Agencies, Boards, and Commissions: All agencies, boards, and commissions of the Metropolitan Government will be expected to work cooperatively with the Diversity Advisory Committee in an effort to achieve the ultimate goal of a workforce that is reflective of Nashville’s diverse population.
