THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY
John Cooper, Mayor
Subject: Second Extension of the State of Civil Emergency Related to Explosion on 2nd Avenue
Whereas, on December 25, 2020, in order to protect the public from injury and facilitate an ongoing criminal investigation, I declared a state of civil emergency arising from an explosion on 2nd Avenue near Commerce Street in downtown Nashville; and
Whereas, Tenn. Code Ann. § 58-2-110(3)(A)(v) limits a declared state of emergency to seven days but authorizes extensions in seven-day increments; and
Whereas, emergency action remains necessary to protect people from substantial harm and property from physical damage and to facilitate the criminal investigation related to the explosion.
Now therefore, I, John Cooper, Mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me, do herby proclaim, direct, and order the following:
The December 25, 2020 declaration of a State of Civil Emergency for the area of the Metropolitan Government bounded by James Robertson Parkway, 4th Avenue North, Broadway, and the Cumberland River is extended for seven days from this date.
Ordered, Effective and Issued: January 8, 2021
John Cooper
Mayor
