THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY

SUBJECT: Diversity Advisory Committee
I, Karl Dean, Mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me, do hereby find, direct and order the following:
I. The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County (the Metropolitan Government) is a rapidly growing community with a diverse population.
II. Although significant progress has been made toward ensuring that the government’s workforce reflects Nashville’s rich diversity, additional efforts are needed to continue the momentum that has been created.
III. An advisory committee for the Metropolitan Government that promotes and encourages a diverse workforce would further Nashville’s goal of being a truly representative city.
IV. There is hereby created and established for the Metropolitan Government a Diversity Advisory Committee.
A. Responsibility and Authority: The Diversity Advisory Committee shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Mayor. Its goal is to develop a plan that will ultimately assist all Metropolitan Government agencies, boards, and commissions in their efforts to recruit, hire and retain a workforce that is inclusive and representative of Nashville’s local demographics and that serves as an example for the employers of this city.
B. Composition: The Diversity Advisory Committee shall be composed of the 13 members.
The members of the Committee are:
a. Scott Potter – Director of Water Services. Mr. Potter shall serve as Co-Chair of the Advisory Committee.
b. Brenda Wynn – Davidson County Clerk. Ms. Wynn shall serve as Co-Chair of the Advisory Committee.
c. Steve Anderson – Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department
d. Sheila Calloway - Juvenile Court Judge
e. Cynthia Croom – Director of the Metro Action Commission
f. Melody Fowler-Green – Executive Director – Human Relations Commission
g. Veronica Frazier – Director of Human Resources
h. Talia Lomax-O’dneal –Finance Deputy Director
i. Randy Lovett – Acting Director of Public Works
j. Sandra Moore – Council Member
k. Saul Solomon – Director of Law
l. Sheri Weiner – Council Member
m. Ricky White – Chief of the Metropolitan Fire Department
2. The Committee may elect such additional officers it finds necessary and appropriate.
3. A quorum for approving decisions by the Committee shall consist of a majority of the currently filled positions on the Committee.
4. Members of the Diversity Advisory Committee shall serve without compensation.
C. Terms and Meetings:
1. The members of the Committee shall continue in office until such time as they are replaced by the Mayor.
2. The meetings of the Committee shall be held at a date, time and place to be determined by the Co-chairs.
D. Cooperation by Agencies, Boards, and Commissions: All agencies, boards, and commissions of the Metropolitan Government will be expected to work cooperatively with the Diversity Advisory Board in an effort to achieve the ultimate goal of a workforce that is reflective of Nashville’s diverse population.
