THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY

Subject: Mayor's Advisory Committee on Refugee and Immigration Affairs
WHEREAS, Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County has approximately 6,000 refugees, and additional refugees from a number of countries are expected to continue to resettle in this area; and
WHEREAS, the various kinds of assistance available to refugees is provided by numerous agencies and entities in the public and private sector; and
WHEREAS, there has been in existence since 1982 a Mayor's Advisory Committee on Refugee and Immigration Affairs which has been of some assistance in coordinating the services of various public and private entities for the benefit of refugees;
NOW THEREFORE, /, Philip Bredesen, Mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me, do hereby direct and order that:
1. A new Mayor's Advisory Committee on Refugee and Immigration Affairs is hereby created, which shall meet for one year, at the end of which its continued existence will be evaluated.
2. The following Metropolitan Government agencies and entities shall furnish a representative for this committee:
Mayor's Office
Juvenile Court
Metropolitan Police Department
Metropolitan Social Services Department
Metropolitan General Hospital
Maternal and Infant Care Program at Metropolitan General Hospital
Metropolitan Board of Education
English as a Second Language Program of the Metropolitan Board of Education
Metropolitan Health Department
Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency
3. The following departments of Tennessee state government shall be asked to furnish a representative for this committee:
Department of Human Services
Department of Mental Health
Department of Health
Department of Education
4. The following community agencies shall be asked to furnish a representative for this committee:
Catholic Charities of Tennessee, Inc.
Church World Services
World Relief
Jewish Social Services
Council of Community Services
5. The Chair of this Advisory Committee shall be Margaret 1. Pollard, the Refugee Coordinator for Metropolitan Department of Social Services. Agencies and entities are asked to furnish the name, address and telephone number of their designated representative to Ms. Pollard by March 30, 1992.
