THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY

Subject: Dissolution of the Mayor's Office of Film Development
WHEREAS, by Executive Order No. 93-01 the Mayor's Office of Film Development was established to promote Metropolitan Nashville and Middle Tennessee as a production center for motion picture and television production companies; and
WHEREAS, the Nashville Film Commission, an office within the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, will be established to exercise the functions of the Mayor's Office of Film Development by promoting, preserving and expanding motion picture and television production within the Metropolitan Nashville and Middle Tennessee area; and
WHEREAS, Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County intends to make appropriations to the Nashville Film Commission, at the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, to fund their activities; and
WHEREAS, the Director of the Mayor's Office of Film Development will move to the Nashville Film Commission at the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and continue to perform the duties previously exercised at the Mayor's Office of Film Development;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Philip Bredesen, Mayor of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me, do hereby direct and order the following:
1. That the Mayor's Office of Film Development is hereby dissolved and the following functions and duties are transferred to the Nashville Film Office at the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce:
(i) To promote Nashville's locations, resources and personnel to motion picture and television production companies;
(ii) To provide Nashville with greater visibility in the film industry;
(iii) To give Nashville exposure as a destination for tourism;
(iv) To promote the importance of film and television in the local community;
(v) To promote the creation of local jobs in the film and television production area and in those industries supporting such productions;
(vi) To promote local investments in the industry; and
(vii) To cooperate with and assist public and private educational institutions, the media and other private and governmental entities involved in the promotion of the film and television production industry in Nashville.
2. The Advisory Board created by Executive Order 93-01 ("Board") will continue to exist and to advise the Mayor on issues related to the activities of the Nashville Film Commission. The Board will have eleven (11) members who shall be appointed by the Mayor and serve at the pleasure of the Mayor. The Board members shall avoid any action which might result in or create the appearance of:
(i) using their Board membership or information gained in connection with their board membership for private gain;
(ii) giving preferential treatment to any person or organization;
(iii) impeding government efficiency or economy;
(iv) losing complete independence or impartiality;
(v) making a Board or Metropolitan Government decision outside of official channels; or
(vi) affecting adversely the confidence of the public in the integrity of the government.
