THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY

Subject: Establishment of a Federal Crime Bill Coordination Task Force
Whereas, the United States Congress has enacted The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994; and
Whereas, this Act contains a variety of provisions relating to law enforcement and crime prevention; and
Whereas, funding will be funneled through a number of Federal agencies; and
Whereas, effective coordination at the local government level will be essential to the effective utilization of these resources;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Philip Bredesen, Mayor of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me, do hereby direct and order the following:
That there is hereby created and established a Federal Crime Bill Coordination Task Force which, in addition to me or my designee, shall include the following persons or their designees:
i. Chief of Police
ii. Commander of the Professional Standards Div., Police Department
iii. Juvenile Court Judge
iv. Sheriff of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County
v. Presiding Judge of the General Sessions Courts
vi. Presiding Judge of the State Trial Courts
vii. Executive Director of MDHA
viii. Executive Director of Metropolitan Social Services Commission
ix. Director of Parks and Recreation
x. Director of Law
xi. Budget Officer, Department of Finance
The Task Force shall have the following purpose:
i. To analyze the provisions of The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 and to determine their applicability, including financial impacts, to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
ii. To coordinate the implementation of the Crime Bill within The Metropolitan Government and Davidson County, which shall include assessing applications for funding possibilities under the Act, recommendations to the Mayor and Metropolitan Council concerning the sources of any local matching requirements and insuring that all appropriate departments and agencies of the Metropolitan Government are working cooperatively in implementing programs funded by the Act.
The Task Force will be chaired by the Commander of the Professional Standards Division of the Metropolitan Police Department.
