Subject: Creation of the Mayor's Advisory Board on Animal Control
Whereas, The Metropolitan Government has proposed issuing general obligation bonds to fund the construction of a new animal control facility; and,
Whereas, it is in the best interest of the citizens of the Metropolitan Government that an advisory board be established to review the operation of the existing animal control facility and to make reports and recommendations to the Mayor regarding operation of the facility and animal control policies;
Now, therefore, /, Philip Bredesen, Mayor of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by virtue of the power vested in me, do hereby direct and order that:
That there be created and established an advisory committee within the Office of the Mayor to be known as the Mayor's Advisory Board on Animal Control.
1 . The Advisory Board on Animal Control shall be responsible for:
• Recommending appropriate policy and legislative changes relative to animal control
• Specifically make recommendations regarding:
a) how to maximize adoptions;
b) appropriate governance and organizational structure of the animal control functions of Metropolitan government
• Promoting communication and improve coordination between public and private persons, officials and groups interested in animal control
2. Membership of the Mayor's Advisory Board on Animal Control shall include:
1 . The Mayor or the Mayor's representative, who shall be chairman;
2. The Chair of the Board of Health or the chair's designee;
3. A citizen representative appointed by the Mayor;
4. A veterinarian appointed by the Mayor;
5. President of the Animal Care Task Force;
6. The Executive Director of the Nashville Humane Association;
7. Two members of the Metropolitan Council, appointed by the Mayor;
8. The Director of the Department of Health or the director's designee;
3.The Mayor's Advisory Board on Animal Control shall meet monthly and provide regular status reports to the Mayor.
