- The Metro Beer Permit Board Team does Not encourage dismissal of employees that sell to the under age 21 team member but rather employee retraining and retention.
- When in doubt or if the TN DL/ID has a Red Box around the photo Always ask the person attempting to buy Beer their age. (How old are you?)
- For now we are allowed discretion in criminal prosecution of first offenders for beer sales to under age 21 persons during our test BUT such as a sale is a Class a Misdemeanor Criminal Offense and the second conviction is a Class E Felony.
- Generally, the staff recommendation for penalty for the beer permit holder for a beer sale to under age 21 person is $1500.00 for the first offense and $2500.00 for the second offense and possibly suspension/revocation of permit for third offense within two years. The permit holder may expect to receive a notice of citation 30-60 days from the test failure and can expect to be tested again within 30-90 days or less of any failure
If interested in attending “Beer Board Suggested Best Practices Training”, please send an email to [email protected] requesting more information. Training is recommended for any location that has failed a Beer Buy Compliance Check. It is also available to permit holders interested in putting their staff in the best position to prevent such a violation from occurring.
