The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County recognizes that drug testing is an important safety issue in the workplace. Workers on drugs present a clear and present danger to themselves, co-workers, and members of the public.
Metro cannot and will not allow the safety and health of others to be jeopardized by drug abusers in the workplace.
The purpose of the Metro Drug Free Workplace Program is to lessen the impact from drug abuse in the workplace, including tardiness, absenteeism, turnover, injury, increased medical costs, theft, decreased productivity, crime and violence.
To the extent that drug testing uncovers drug dependency problems and forces people to face up to them, drug testing can be constructive, humane and even life-saving.
