The first full day of the 2022-23 school year for the Davidson County Head Start program administered by the Metropolitan Action Commission will begin on Wednesday. Metro Action’s Pre-K/childcare program provides early childhood education and classroom experiences at no cost to income eligible families for children ages 3-5 years old.
The agency has classroom spaces still available at all 7 Head Start centers located across Davidson County. To qualify, the family must reside in Davidson County, have a Head Start age child and meet the federal income guideline. Beginning this school year, families receiving public assistance, such as the food supplemental program SNAP or WIC are now automatically eligible for acceptance into Head Start.
Families with children with diagnosed learning or physical disabilities do not have to meet the income requirement for enrollment.
In addition to the early learning program, Metro Action also provides breakfast and lunch meals at no cost for all children including meals for children with special diets and allergies. Bus transportation is provided for children with transportation needs and before and after care programs are also available for children of working parents and for parents enrolled in school or training programs.
The Head Start and Early Head Start program serves 1,365 young children, making Metro Action the largest provider of early childhood education for children birth to five in Davidson County.
Metro Action will host its next hiring event on Thursday, August 25 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. for positions that are still vacant in several areas of the agency.
The agency offers competitive pay for all positions. Currently there are employment opportunities in Head Start program for Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Family Advocates and part-time Before and After Care teachers. The agency is also hiring for full time bus drivers and part-time shuttle drivers.
