Who: Metro Social Services
What: Metro Social Services will host a Food Pop Up food giveaway, the first in a series of more to come. Boxes filled with non-perishable food will be given away on a first-come-first-serve basis to individuals and families in need. Each box is estimated to last one to two weeks.
Those wanting a food box will simply pull in line, be greeted by a staff member, receive their food box at their vehicle door, then drive off. No registration is required. Walk ups are welcome.
The idea to start the Food Pop Up program was born out of an uptick in requests for help and food support by clients at Metro Social Services. Additionally, research conducted by the department’s Strategic Planning and Research team found the following:
- 1-in-10 Nashvillians is food insecure
- Half of Nashville workers earn below a living wage
- Economic hardship is widespread for Nashvillians
