Description
The Community Safety Partnership Fund Advisory Board was established in May 2021 by the Mayor to advise the Mayor's Office of Community Safety and to make recommendations to the Metro Council for grant funding to nonprofits working to enhance community safety. The Funding recommendations from the Advisory Board are sent to the Metro Council Budget Committee and to the Committee for Public Health and Safety for review and then must be approved by the full Metro City Council to be funded. While the Community Safety Partnership Fund Advisory Board can make recommendations to Council, it has no budgetary authority. The Council ultimately must review and approve funding of grants, as per Metro Charter 5.04.070.
An Advisory Board does operate with some differences than a Metro Commission. Commissions are established in the Metro Charter and often have appointees from various Metro entities. An Advisory Board, such as the one established by the Mayor for the Community Safety Partnership Fund, are a cohort of subject matter experts who advise the Mayor's Office on matters that require expertise.
