Overview
The Nashville area has a deep and talented workforce and a total population of over 1.6 million people. Over half of those who are at least 25 years old have at least one year of college. The area’s dozens of colleges and universities have given Nashville the nickname ‘The Athens of the South.”
Programs
The Academies of Nashville, recognized by the White House as a national high school transformation model, offers students a choice of 35 different academies in 12 zoned schools. With over 365 community partners, students gain exposure and experience, while local colleges and universities collaborate to provide dual credit, dual enrollment, and industry credentials, preparing them for college or career readiness. Created in partnership with Nashville State Community College, the Nashville GRAD program will provide financial assistance for full-time students pursuing higher education in Davidson County. Students will also receive wraparound services including academic and career counseling. For eligible students, Nashville GRAD will offer financial assistance in purchasing textbooks, transportation, industry certification fees, and emergency needs (Nashville State Community College students). Nashville FLEX was announced by Mayor Freddie O’Connell, an expansion of Nashville GRAD, created to provide financial assistance for part-time students pursuing higher education in Davidson County.
