Freddie O'Connell is officially Nashville's 10th mayor after Judge David Briley administered the oath of office at a private swearing in ceremony at 7:30 a.m. on September 25.
O'Connell's family joined for the ceremony held in Briley's courtroom. The mayor then took the steps to the first floor of the Historic Courthouse to begin his work as mayor.
His first day included the jumpstarting of work on his 15 fixes, a series of solutions he proposed on the campaign trail and vowed to initiate on day one in office.
Work is underway to streamline Metro's permitting process with a new director to oversee that work. Efforts are also underway to strengthen the Office of Neighborhoods.
Public transit is becoming more accessible. On October 1, WeGo will expand its fall schedule to offer more routes more often, additional WeGo Link zones, and make several route changes based on community feedback.
The day after the election, O'Connell appointed Alex Jahangir, Christy Pruitt-Haynes, and David Esquivel to lead three committees that touch every element of Metro government.
Mayor Freddie O'Connell will give his charge to his three transition committees on Wednesday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bellevue Public Library (720 Baugh Road).
O'Connell will address the committees and each of its members as they study How Nashville Moves, How Nashville Grows, and How Nashville Works.
The event is open to the media and the public.
After O'Connell's address, each of the three committees will begin their work which will carry through the next six weeks and support O'Connell's efforts to hit the ground running as mayor.
