Today, Mayor John Cooper released a public service announcement reminding Nashville and Davidson County residents to participate in the 2020 United States Census. Mayor Cooper emphasized the importance of their participation, as the results of the census determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives. Additionally, a complete and accurate count affects community funding amounts.
“The census is critically important,” said Mayor Cooper. “It determines how the federal government spends billions of dollars in communities across the country, including ours. The more people who get counted in Nashville, the more money we’ll get for schools, hospitals, infrastructure, and other important public services. Nashvillians’ main priorities remain the March 3 tornado recovery effort and our citywide response to the coronavirus. But I urge all residents who can participate in the census to take a moment to be counted.”
Beginning in mid-March, Nashville residents will begin receiving mailed invitations to participate in the 2020 Census. Households will have three options for responding: Online, by phone, or by mail. Mayor Cooper encourages all Nashvillians to complete the survey to ensure a complete and accurate count of Davidson County residents.
Nashville residents who are unable to receive mail or who have been displaced due to tornado damage should be counted at their home address and can respond to the census at 2020census.gov or 844-330-2020. Census kiosks and dedicated computers will also be stationed at the following locations:

The 2020 Census counts the population in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories (Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands).
